Suppressor tax is now $0

The $200 NFA transfer/making tax on suppressors dropped to zero on January 1, 2026 (OBBBA; ATF final rule 2026-09155; 27 CFR 479.82).

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act zeroed the National Firearms Act transfer and making tax for suppressors effective January 1, 2026. ATF implemented it in final rule 2026-09155, codified at 27 CFR 479.82.

The tax going away did not remove the registration requirement — that fell with the ATF's October 9, 2026 non-enforcement policy. And it never touched state law: some states ban suppressors outright, others write exceptions keyed to federal registration.
