Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador said Idahoans can buy covered NFA items without federal registration after ATF's October 9 enforcement guidance.

On October 12, 2026, Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador announced that Idahoans can buy suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns without federal registration, lengthy waits, or federal taxes after ATF's October 9 guidance.

The Idaho AG describes the announcement as the nationwide result of the Silencer Shop Foundation litigation and ATF's enforcement policy. The release says buyers still face Form 4473 and background-check requirements, and dealers must comply with state and local law.

The release also says ATF continues to accept voluntary registrations and that the enforcement policy could be reversed. This is an attorney general announcement, not a repeal of federal law or an Idaho statute. Not legal advice. Verify current law before acting.
